Spain is a tropical beauty with rich and vibrant lands, surrounded by warm oceans. Its climate is ideal for any summer vacation and allows the land to populate with several types of plants and greenery. Madrid is the capitol of Spain, rooted by its neo traditional values, colored roads, vibrant houses, and decorated with street art of several styles. Madrid’s culture is very expressive and dynamic, constantly celebrating tradition in new modern ways. For this design, I wanted to capture Madrid’s vibrancy in color and contemporary shapes and forms. The logotype is based on Spanish tissue paper decorations- commonly used for parties- and Spanish embroidery/fabric patterns. There is also some inspiration from the Spanish artist, Picasso, and Cubism. These specific elements are more traditional, but the color palette and composition are more modern, going into that neo-traditional perspective. The colors stem from the Spanish flag and the surrounding seas of Spain. The layout reflects the shape of the country, having the negative space reflect the encircling seas and some of the header type to act as the land that connects Spain to neighboring cultures. The body text varies in point size to reflect the look of the customized header type. The body copy surrounding the ‘country’ allows the audience to identify the guests clearly while also creating a union between land and sea.
