Sonder is the awareness that other people have their own complex feelings and experiences outside of our own. This is the word that started an unbelievable journey for the 3 of us. Carlee came up with the word Sonder, wanting to bring more meaning to collage and to showcase our journey as seniors. Amelia’s artistic abilities helped us plan out our collage in a way that felt natural yet full of color, and her doodles brought our ideas onto the walls. My role in the group was mainly dependent on manual labor, proofreading, and helping with the brainstorming process. We poured our hearts and souls into this capstone to make sure we could show our seniors how much we appreciated them, especially Carlee and Amelia. They were 2 powerhouses of creativity, and I could not have dreamed of doing anything like this without them.

Now onto the design elements. The main base of our idea was to go into the idea of Sonder by exhibiting everyone’s individual design journeys into one big collage. The logotype is based on a Bauhaus style, replicating pieces of unique puzzle pieces into one unified letterform, going into the idea of unified chaos. The doodles around the walls symbolize the process of a designer and what that may look like. The name plates were simpler but had pieces of collage popping off to add depth. Each person also wore the primary colors in their photos to match the blocks of colors used inside the main collage to break it up. We wanted to bring the viewers of the exhibit into the minds of all the designers on display.
