Date

Fall 2025

Project type

Theatre Poster

“Troilus and Cressida” is a play set in the Trojan War and built on themes of love, betrayal, and internal conflicts. The main story is a complicated love story between Troilus and Cressida while the secondary story follows a retelling of the historical Trojan War. Troilus, the prince of Troy, wants to get with Cressida, a trojan woman he has had his eyes on for a while. She eventually falls for him but only after playing him like a fiddle. Cressida’s father, a Trojan citizen now siding with the Greeks, forces Cressida to be exchanged for a Greek prisoner to have her on his side. Cressida is distraught and taken against her will while Troilus just lets it happen and tells her to remain loyal. Meanwhile in the Greek camp, there are many manipulative members, trying to spark each other’s egos leading to extreme internal conflicts. Overall, nobody is the true hero, but every character thinks they are. The main design element, as mentioned before, is a broken statue depicting Cressida’s broken loyalty toward Prince Troilus. Prince Troilus has become a broken man, pieces of him floating around in distortion, keeping him from restoration. The statue is stained with kisses, representing the turmoil of a past love. The lace and color palette embody royalty, since Troilus is of noble blood and descent, making the broken statue even more of a pity. The type is also broken up, mimicking the unstable cracks in the relationship of Troilus and Cressida.
